The police investigate the murder of Richard Tanner who was stabbed and found dead in the model village in Little Worthy tied to the ground like Gulliver from Gulliver's Travels. He was found by the grounds-keeper and model maker Ben Moss who has worked for the owners, sisters Hillary and Harriet Comptom. Tanner wasn't very well liked in the village and was viewed as a troublemaker by many. He was known to have had romantic entanglements with the local school teacher Rebecca Rix and Krista Palfrey, daughter of the local hotel owner Edward Palfrey. He wasn't very pleased with his daughter's relationship Tanner and he didn't like the way Krista treated his girlfriend, Berrnice, leading to a tension-filled home situation. At the annual silly boat race to mark the end of the tourist season, another person is killed and later still there is a third victim. There is clearly someone in the village who is out for revenge.

Gabrielle, a pleasant woman in her sixties, learns that she is about to be evicted from her second-hand shop, and that she is about to become a grandmother. Her friends advise her to take this opportunity to begin enjoying the joys of retirement. However, at the same time, Gabrielle meets Fred, a well-built young man whose youth attracts her as much her maturity, her freedom, and her social standing fascinates him. Although their respective circle of friends are horrified by the relationship (his friends think she's an elderly cougar....her friends think he's a gigolo), Fred and Gabrielle are going to try and enjoy their love story, ignoring the boundaries of age and social class.

Su carrera profesional se ve truncada por un accidente de tráfico y su vida sentimental está marcada por el trauma que supuso presenciar un atentado terrorista en la adolescencia, cuando conoce a otra víctima del terrorismo. La película cuenta lo difícil que es seguir viviendo en el País Vasco tras sufrir un atentado y la necesidad de huir a una gran ciudad para sentirse anónimo y rehacer sus vida.
