AVisually lavish, lushly coloured & aesthetically flawless. Decorations, murals, paintings, Venitian alleys & squares and later feudal-like domains constitute backgrounds to the movie. Story on the other hand is as classic (& known) as it gets, guessable till its final scene from the 15 first minutes... Efficient foreshadowing, or unoriginal common places? The tone is melodramatic and sometimes feels forced... especially when the dialogue lines fail to deliver the desired impact. Magnificent opening scene at the opera
